Xiamen, September 1, 2025 - The event titled “Innovation Leads the Way, Legal Services Provide Protection” was successfully held to unveil the Model Contract for Maritime Cargo Transport of Containerized Lithium Battery Energy Storage Systems. This event was jointly hosted by the Xiamen Area of China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration, Xiamen Port Authority, and Maritime Silk Road Central Legal District FTZ Pilot Zone. Mr. WU Shaoying, Senior Consultant of ICDPASO (Xiamen) Representative Office, was invited to attend.
The newly released Model Contract for Maritime Cargo Transport of Containerized Lithium Battery Energy Storage Systems is China’ s first specialized model contract focusing on the maritime transport of containerized lithium battery energy storage systems.The dispute resolution clause designates ICDPASO as an optional institution to provide one-stop services, including mediation and arbitration. This enables contracting parties to access professional guidance on dispute prevention and settlement, while also lowering negotiation costs through standardized terms and streamlined procedures. Through the innovative combination of the specialized contract and the ICDPASO dispute settlement mechanism, the model not only fills the gap in a unified and standardized contract text for the maritime export of lithium battery storage systems, but also provides explicit provisions and legal protection for the maritime transport of high-value, high-risk lithium battery storage systems.
This innovative mechanism will help all parties in the industry chain clarify the boundaries of responsibility more efficiently and foster a collaborative consensus. Also, it will promote high-level safety and high-quality development in the “Overseas Expansion” process of the lithium battery industry and facilitate positive interaction of industrial internationalization.
