Inaugural Event of ICDPASO Hatamen International Salon Series Successfully Held

Beijing, February 13, 2026 – The inaugural event of the ICDPASO Hatamen International Salon Series, themed “Global Perspectives on Eastern Mediation,” hosted by the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO), was successfully held. The event centered on core themes including Eastern mediation practices and the fostering of a global, diversified commercial dispute resolution ecosystem. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on key issues, including international alignment following the promulgation of China's Regulations on Commercial Mediation, emerging trends in the field, and the complementarity and synergy among international dispute resolution institutions. Over 100 representatives from the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), The Law Society of Singapore, the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and The Law Society of Hong Kong actively participated in the event, which was also livestreamed to global members.


In theopening remarks session, Mr. LIU Jiannan, Chairman of ICDPASO and Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), stated that ICDPASO will persist in solidifying rules, optimizing services, and deepening cooperation. He expressed willingness to work side by side with all parties to continuously polish the distinctive brand of Eastern mediation and contribute more pragmatic solutions to improving the global commercial dispute resolution mechanism. Ms. ZHANG Yuejiao, Honorary Chairperson of ICDPASO and Former Judge and Chair of the WTO Appellate Body, spoke highly of the unique value and global significance of Eastern Mediation. She expressed that she would continue to support ICDPASO in leveraging its role as a professional platform to help foster an open, fair, and efficient international business environment.


In the Keynote Presentation session,Ms. Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah, Secretary-General of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), gave an in-depth elaboration centering on “the six ‘W’s”(Why,Where,What,When,Who,How)and the latest developments in international mediation. She affirmed that IOMed will work with ICDPASO to promote mediation as the preferred method for international dispute resolution. Mr. See Chern Yang, Chairperson of the Law Society of Singapore Mediation Committee, drawing upon Singaporean practice, shared practical pathways for international commercial dispute resolution from the perspectives of mediation core values and practical value.


The Roundtable Discussion was moderated byMr. SUN Wei, ICDPASO Mediator and Partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm. Mr. ZHAI Jingmin, President of the Beijing Association for Alternative Dispute Resolution; Ms. LI Yanjing, Legal Counsel of the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce; Ms. Heidi CHUI, Council Member and Vice-Chairlady of the Greater China Legal Affairs Committee of The Law Society of Hong Kong; Mr. HE Haifeng, Partner of Grandway Law Offices; and Mr. Ray LIU, Global Partner and Managing Partner of Beijing Office at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, engaged in in-depth exchanges. They discussed industry transformations following the implementation of China's Regulations on Commercial Mediation, difficulties and breakthroughs in the alignment of Chinese and foreign commercial mediation, and frontier trends and opportunities for the legal profession in international commercial mediation, offering diversified perspectives and pragmatic suggestions for preventing legal risks in cross-border business operations.


In the Closing Remarks session,Mr. Roden TONG, President of The Law Society of Hong Kong, and Ms. WANG Linjie, Deputy Director of the CCPIT Commercial Legal Service Center, delivered concluding remarks.


Building on this success, the Hatamen International Salon will continue to host thematic events focused on the evolving landscape and practical needs of international commerce. By creating a multi-dimensional platform for exchange, the Salon seeks to strengthen global industry cooperation and promote the robust growth of the commercial legal service industry.
